Wiggin and Dana Promotes Najia Khalid to Partner

1.1.2018
Wiggin and Dana is proud to announce the promotion of Najia Khalid to partner as of January 1. Najia is Co-Chair of Wiggin and Dana's Immigration & Nationality Law & Compliance practice, and has dedicated her legal career to business immigration law.

After college, Najia became a business immigration paralegal and her experiences drove her to attend law school to become a business immigration attorney. After law school, she joined an immigration boutique in New York City, and she later joined Wiggin and Dana in 2012 to develop and expand a dedicated business immigration practice at the firm.

"Immigration has always been an immensely personal issue for me and my family," comments Najia. "Immigration status affects every aspect of an individual's life, from family and personal daily matters like securing a home and driver's license, to educational and career matters. My work in business immigration helps me to do what I am truly passionate about: helping people obtain the ability to legally work and secure their livelihood."

Najia represents employers, from national and multinational companies, franchisors, and educational, healthcare/pharmaceutical, research, and religious institutions, to emerging companies and individual entrepreneurs. She focuses on business immigration strategy, including the establishment of new entities/companies and immigration sponsorship policies, the review of mergers, acquisitions, and other changes in corporate structure, and the international transfer of students, faculty, and employees.

In addition to her practice, Najia serves as the Co-Chair of the firm's Diversity Committee, regularly participating in student outreach programs and educational panels at universities such as the University of Connecticut, New York University, and Columbia University. Not only does she share her experiences as a Muslim and Pakistani attorney in Connecticut, she also serves as a mentor for women and young mothers in the legal profession.
