Biography

James is a Partner in the firm's Litigation Department.

James's practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, with emphasis on accountants' liability, securities, anti-trust, and insurance. James also has extensive experience in the area of white collar defense, internal investigations, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), and other regulatory investigations. Significant matters that James has worked on include representing the following:

  • A Fortune 500 insurance company in multi-state Attorney General investigations related to contingent commissions and the marketing of group annuities.
  • A Fortune 500 insurance company in a state Attorney General investigation related to insurance for hurricane damage.
    The audit committee of Cendant Corporation in the investigation of accounting irregularities.
  • Big Four accounting firms before the SEC and in accountant liability cases throughout the country.
  • Lebon Insurance Company in a multimillion-dollar insurance coverage dispute arising out of the spill of toxic materials at an explosives manufacturing plant in Utah.
  • Insurance brokers in a variety of insurance broker liability cases in state and federal courts.
  • Fine Host Corporation (of Greenwich, Connecticut) in a $175 million securities fraud class action arising out of the discovery of alleged accounting irregularities and the subsequent restatement of earnings.
  • Bandag, Inc. (a leader in commercial truck tire retreading technology, located in Iowa) in a multimillion-dollar antitrust litigation against Michelin, Inc.

James received his J.D. from New York University, where he was Editor at Moot Court Board, and his B.A. cum laude from Pomona College.

He is admitted to practice in Connecticut and New York and is a member of the American Bar Association and Connecticut Bar Association.
