Biography

John Zandy is a Partner in Wiggin and Dana's Labor, Employment and Benefits Department, and has extensive experience representing employers in high stakes and complex labor and employment matters.  He has been a partner with the firm since 1987, and previously served as an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board and the Solicitor's Office of the U.S. Department of Labor in New York City.  John was also a partner for many years with a law firm in New York City where he was engaged in a national practice representing employers in labor and employment matters.  John has a special concentration in labor relations, including National Labor Relations Board proceedings, collective bargaining, grievance and arbitration proceedings, and union organizing campaigns, but he also devotes a significant part of his practice to defending employers in cases involving allegations of discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful discharge, wage and hour, and OSHA violations.  He is also a resource to his clients on "HR" issues such as discipline and discharge, wage and hour, FMLA, employment and non-competition agreements and ADA compliance.

Due to the many changes initiated by the OFCCP over the last several years, John's practice representing federal contractors and subcontractors has continued to expand to meet the additional obligations that clients now have. Working with Robin Martocci, the firm's Affirmative Action Specialist, this practice group has experience in a wide variety of industries with producing affirmative action plans, providing technical assistance, and defending contractors in OFCCP compliance audits, including the desk and on-site phases.

John's practice is broad and involves a wide range of industries including health care (hospitals, nursing homes, home health care, and emergency medical services), manufacturing, newspapers, technology, other service industries, banks, public utilities and non-profit organizations. He also has extensive experience representing colleges, universities, and other private educational institutions in labor and employment matters, and with student matters such as student discipline, ADA compliance, sexual assault and harassment, Title IX, handbooks and policies.

Since 2006, John has been included in The Best Lawyers in America for Labor and Employment Law  and has been named New Haven Labor Law-Management "Lawyer of the Year" for 2013 and 2014 (for more about the standards for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, please click here and for Lawyer of the Year, please click here). John is also recognized as a "Leader in Their Field," by Chambers in the category of labor and employment (for more information about the standards for inclusion in Chambers USA, please click here). John has also been selected for inclusion in the 2014 New England Super Lawyers Magazine for his work in the Employment and Labor practice area (for more information about the standards for inclusion, please click here).

John is the past Chair of the Labor, Employment and Benefits Department and lectures frequently on labor and employment law issues.
