William G. Millman, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund
A Scholarship Fund has been created in memory of William G. Millman, Jr. Millman was a partner at Wiggin and Dana in New Haven, Connecticut and also served as Chair of the CBA's Antitrust & Trade Regulation Section. He began working for Wiggin and Dana in 1981, and became a partner in 1990. He was a 1979 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and a 1982 graduate of Georgetown University Law School. He was an active Notre Dame alumnus. He distinguished himself in significant matters of litigation and corporate law, and he was an acknowledged expert in antitrust law.
Criteria
Each applicant must be a Connecticut resident who is an undergraduate student at a four-year college, with a first preference for a student who has been accepted to or is enrolled at the University of Notre Dame, and professes a good faith intention to attend law school and return to Connecticut to practice law.
Award
The Scholarship Committee will award an annual scholarship of $2500. The Scholarship is administered by the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. Scholarships will not be based on financial need, but the scholarship funds will be distributed through his or her college financial aid office.
The Scholarship Committee understands and appreciates that it is quite difficult for an undergraduate student to commit to a specific course of action years into the future. It is thus important to note that should the applicant’s plans change, the applicant will not be legally bound in anyway.
Scholarships will be awarded based upon the materials the applicants submit to the Scholarship Committee. The Scholarship Committee will not discriminate against any applicant based upon age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, race, or nationality.
Submissions
To be considered for the scholarship, students must submit:
1. A final high school or most recent cumulative college academic transcript.
2. A completed application which includes an explanation of why the applicant intends to practice law in Connecticut and describes the applicant's ties to Connecticut.
All applications must be submitted by November 12, 2007. One application may be submitted per person.
Please send completed application and transcript to:
