Joseph K. Fortier

Biography

Joe has spent nearly four decades helping large corporate real estate groups and other clients achieve their business goals as they buy, sell, lease, and develop commercial real estate.

As a Partner in the Real Estate, Environmental and Energy Department, Joe deeply understands clients’ businesses, the industry, and the current market. He takes a practical, risk-based approach to client challenges, ensuring that clients can easily take effective action to move their projects forward.

In his national commercial real estate practice, Joe has accumulated extensive experience in commercial leasing (for both landlords and tenants), property acquisition, disposition, and construction contracting. He represents the corporate real estate departments of several Fortune 100 companies in their national and international commercial real estate projects. His experience includes commercial office, retail, industrial, and mixed use properties.

For example, Joe recently negotiated the lease for a Fortune 100 company’s 145,000 square-foot corporate headquarters, negotiated and closed several significant commercial sale/leaseback transactions, and in the past year alone has negotiated four major build-to-suit office leases.

Joe, who has been listed in Super Lawyers, is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He is also a member of the Connecticut-Westchester Chapter and New England Chapter of CoreNet Global and is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Joe is also active in his community. He serves on the real estate advisory board of the Community Renewal Team, a local anti-poverty group involved in housing for low-income, veteran, disabled, and senior citizens.

Joe earned his J.D. from Cornell University and his B.A. and B.S. from the University of Connecticut.
