Health Law Attorneys Publish Article in Connecticut Law Tribune
Wiggin and Dana health law attorneys Rebecca Matthews and Diane Cooper recently published an article in the Connecticut Law Tribune on Practical Considerations for Unifying Medical Staffs.
On July 11, 2014, new rules from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services became effective, allowing medical staffs from hospitals within a multi-hospital system to unify. Connecticut health systems and hospitals need to be familiar with the new rules, including voting and opt-out requirements, before making the decision to unify their medical staffs. Health systems that are contemplating expansion should also consider how a unified medical staff could impact future transactions. The article summarizes the requirements for health systems and hospitals under the new rules, and discusses the potential impact that a unified medical staff could have on future health care transactions.
