Robert S. Burstein


Bob is Counsel in Wiggin and Dana’s Philadelphia office, where he brings decades of experience with the business, regulatory, and transactional aspects of franchising and distribution.

Over his career, Bob has provided day-to-day business counseling and assisted clients in forming, developing, acquiring, and modifying franchise systems. He helps clients in complying with regulations; drafting franchise agreements, disclosure documents, and related materials; reviewing distribution arrangements for "hidden franchise" issues; negotiating transactions; and resolving disputes. Bob has assisted domestic franchisors with international market expansion, as well as foreign franchisors entering the U.S. market.

Before joining Wiggin and Dana, Bob worked at a firm in Boston, where he represented both mature and emerging growth companies in the areas of debt and equity financings, mergers, acquisitions, strategic alliances, licensing, and corporate governance. Bob has also worked as an in-house counsel for the franchisor of Subway® restaurants.

Bob received his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar each year and Financial Editor of the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law. Bob earned his B.S. summa cum laude from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Beta Alpha Psi, and the varsity track and field team.
