Partner Jeff Babbin Assisted Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association with Amicus Brief

February 11, 2025

Partner Jeff Babbin assisted the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association (CDLA) with an amicus brief in regards to L.L. v. Newell Brands, Inc., which questioned whether Connecticut law recognized a parent’s claim for loss of filial consortium of a minor child who was severely injured as a result of a defendant’s allegedly tortious conduct.

The Connecticut Supreme Court just recently held that Connecticut law doesn’t recognize a cause of action for loss of filial consortium, consistent with the position taken by the CDLA in its amicus brief.

As chair of CDLA’s Amicus Committee, Jeff played a key role in organizing the amicus brief effort, overseeing the development of the arguments, and reviewing drafts of the brief. The amicus brief was researched and co-drafted by the firms of Gfeller Laurie LLP and Gordon Rees.
