Behind the Win: Litigation Departments of the Year – General Litigation – 2025 New England Legal Awards
Exploring the Strategy, Teamwork, and Impact Behind Wiggin and Dana’s Biggest Victory at the 2025 New England Legal Awards
Wiggin and Dana was named Litigation Departments of the Year: General Litigation at the 2025 New England Legal Awards. This honor celebrates not just what we achieved, but how we achieved it: through collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to client success.
From complex commercial disputes to cases involving international law and constitutional principles, our team combines technical skill with practical judgment and works seamlessly across practice areas to deliver outstanding outcomes for our clients.
Kevin Smith, Chair of the Litigation Department, shares his perspective:
What does this recognition mean to you?
It is an honor because it reflects the trust clients place in us when their most important matters are on the line. It shows that our approach works: listening carefully, thinking strategically, and delivering results that align with our clients’ goals. This recognition also gives us a chance to pause and appreciate the talent and dedication of the people we work with every day and the relationships we have built with clients over many years.
How does this recognition highlight the strengths of your team or practice?
It speaks to the breadth and depth of our capabilities. We handle matters that span industries and jurisdictions, from complex commercial disputes to cases involving international law and constitutional principles. Our strength lies in combining technical skill with practical judgment and doing so consistently across very different types of challenges.
How did collaboration across practice areas strengthen your results?
It is critical. Collaboration is at the core of how our department operates. This year, we saw trial lawyers, appellate specialists, and subject matter experts working together from the start of a case through its resolution. When we were briefing complex issues or preparing for trial, we had insights from colleagues who understood the regulatory, commercial, and technical dimensions of the dispute. That level of teamwork made a real difference in the outcomes we achieved.
