American Bar Association‘s 46th Annual Forum on Franchising

On November 2, Partner Matthew Smith will present at the American Bar Association‘s 46th Annual Forum on Franchising.

Matthew will present in the workshop titled, “What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You – A Primer for Franchise Lawyers on Trusts, Estates, and Succession Rights.” This workshop will address why franchisee succession planning is essential for franchisees and franchisors alike and will analyze ownership structures such as revocable and irrevocable trusts. Matthew also will discuss the claims of creditors and beneficiaries that are triggered by the death of a franchisee, with an emphasis on the probate process for franchise rights.
