Avoiding the Trifecta of Liability: Malpractice, HIPAA, and Medicaid Audits
Wiggin and Dana attorneys, Erika Amarante, Kevin Budge, Michelle Wilcox DeBarge and Jody Erdfarb, will be presenting the program Avoiding the Trifecta of Liability: Malpractice, HIPAA, and Medicaid Audits for the Connecticut Association of Optometrists on Wednesday, January 30th from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Rocky Hill Sheraton.
Optometrists today face risks from a number of fronts. In this presentation, Wiggin and Dana attorneys will provide tips on avoiding liability from malpractice lawsuits, HIPAA noncompliance, and Medicaid audits. Attendees will:
- Hear about recent trends in medical malpractice verdicts and settlements, including relevant legislation, case law and risk management themes;
- Discover tips for responding to a claim letter, lawsuit or subpoena;
- Learn when HIPAA is applicable, what HIPAA requires, and hear about recent HIPAA enforcement activity and how providers can mitigate HIPAA liability; and
- Understand the Medicaid audit process, recent audit findings, and tips for survival.
