CCIC Member Forum
On November 14, Partner Jolie Apicella will present at the CCIC Member Forum in a workshopย titledย “Civil Rights Fraud Initiative Six Months Later: Guidance for Understanding and Managing False Claims Act Risk.“
Last May, the Department of Justice launched the Civil Rights Fraud Initiative, signaling a heightened focus on using the False Claims Act (FCA) to enforce federal civil rights laws against colleges and universities. This session reviews how the DOJ has applied the FCA in higher education and what institutions should expect moving forward. Participants will learn about recent enforcement trends, key elements of FCA claims, potential defenses, and practical steps to reduce risk. The discussion will provide actionable guidance on compliance, responding to investigations, and safeguarding institutional integrity in an evolving enforcement landscape.
