Jim Glasser Receives 2020 American Inns of Court Professionalism Award for the Second Circuit
Wiggin and Danaโs Litigation Department Chair James Glasser received the prestigious 2020 American Inns of Court Professionalism Award for the Second Circuit at a COVID-19 delayed ceremony held at the U.S. Supreme Court on March 26, 2022. The ceremony at the Court recognized the accomplishments of several giants of the legal profession whose careers and achievements epitomize the ideals of the American Inns of Court. The ceremony was followed by a black tie dinner at the Supreme Court.
Chief Judge Barbara M.G. Lynn of the Northern District of Texas presented the award to Jim Glasser. Judge Lynn stated, “Jim Glasserโs career is defined by his commitment to justice, commitment to service, and commitment to the development of young lawyersโ skills, confidence, and understanding of their solemn duty to the law. Renowned for his trial skills and revered for his focus on justice, Jim insisted that prosecutors be even-handed, respectful to all, and conscious of their responsibility to represent the United States and the larger interests that are at the foundation of our constitution and our nation. Prosecutors and young associates alike credit Jim Glasserโs unique combination of guidance and trust with giving them the confidence to try cases โ and his telegraphing of that trust to judges and clients with building their credibility. Opponents in both criminal and civil cases speak of Jimโs honesty, integrity, respect for the process, and respect for their clientsโ humanity. Finally, Jimโs deep commitment to pro bono work is embedded in the culture of his firm. There are no hour limits, and Jim mentors one young lawyer after another, including them in his complex pro bono cases and advising them on their own. As a young colleague observes, โJim leads by sheer example and inspires those of us in his workshop to live up to his expectations and standards of professionalism. Those include zealous and uncompromising advocacy, sincere recognition of our obligation to serve the indigent, dedication to legal education, and an abiding commitment to treating all, including opponents, with courtesy and respect.””
