Partner Paul Tuchmann Quoted in The New York Times on FIFA Corruption Case

On January 27-28, 2024, Partner Paul Tuchmann was quoted in a New York Times article titled, “FIFA Convictions Are Imperiled by Questions of U.S. Overreach.”

In response to a federal judge throwing out the convictions of two defendants who were convicted by a jury of charges relating to bribery in international soccer, a decision currently under appeal by the government, Paul called the decision “a hiccup” and explained that no matter what the appeals court decides, “you can’t go back in time and erase the impact.” Paul continues to explain that undoing the government’s work would have broad consequences — within global sports and beyond it. He adds, “For people with a certain amount of wiliness, they’ll understand the U.S. criminal justice system isn’t going to touch them. And I think it’s unfortunate.”
