Partners Joseph Casino and Michael Kasdan Named in 2021 By IAM Strategy 300 as World-Leading IP Strategists

January 15, 2021

Wiggin and Dana is proud to announce that Partners Joseph Casino and Michael Kasdan have been named as world-leading IP Strategists in the 2021 edition of the IAM Strategy 300 โ€“ The Worldโ€™s Leading IP Strategists. This unique guide identified the top 300 individuals worldwide who are leading the way in the development and implementation of strategies that maximize the value of IP portfolios. This is their fifth consecutive year being included in the IAM Strategy 300.

Joseph Casino, chair of Wiggin and Danaโ€™s IP practice group, has 25 years of experience as a lead counsel in patent litigation and also advises clients on complex licensing matters, patent monetization issues, patent portfolio development and worldwide intellectual property strategic counseling. Joe is the Managing Trustee of Sun Patent Trust and responsible for licensing its 3,000+ patent portfolio in bi-lateral transactions and patent pools. Joe is the Secretary of the Licensing Executive Societyโ€™s (LES) effort to develop standards for the licensing industry and also is co-chair of LESโ€™ New York Chapter.

Michael Kasdan, partner and member of Wiggin and Danaโ€™s IP practice, has over fifteen years of experience representing companies in patent litigations, licensing and monetization, handling third-party patent assertions and both offensive and defensive license negotiations, as well as portfolio cross-license agreements, and advising companies โ€“ both large and small โ€“ on IP strategy. He is the author of the Patent Licensing and Monetization chapter of the Oxford Handbook of Intellectual Property Law (Oxford Press, 2018) and the LEXIS Practice Advisor on IP Licensing, and been an Adjunct Professor at New York University School of Law for the past seven years, teaching a course on IP Licensing and guest lecturing at NYUโ€™s International Intellectual Property course, as well as its Business Transactions Clinic and StartUp School. Mike co-chairs the NY Chapter of the Licensing Executives Society (LES) and heads the New York Chapter of the International Intellectual Property Commercialization Council (IIPCC) and the New York IP Alliance.

IAM conducts in-depth research to identify individuals who possess world-class skills in the development and roll-out of strategies that maximize the value of patents, copyright, trademarks and other IP rights. The IAM research team spoke to a wide range of senior corporate IP managers in North America, Europe and Asia, as well as third-party IP service providers, in order to identify these IP Leaders. Only those individuals nominated multiple times by different parties as outstanding IP strategists are listed in the IAM Strategy 300.

โ€œIntellectual property helps to drive the 21st century economy, creating strong incentives to invest in the creation and roll-out of brands and all types of content, as well as the innovation process. This makes IP strategists more important than they have ever been before. Their ability to create significant value makes them indispensable, wherever in the world they operate,โ€ says IAM editor Joff Wild. โ€œSince it was launched, the IAM Strategy 300 has become the go-to guide for those seeking to find out who leads the way when it comes to IP strategy. We invest considerable time and effort into identifying the right candidates for inclusion and we salute all those who have made it into the final publication. For the work they do, they deserve this recognition.โ€
