Wiggin and Dana Partner Benjamin Diessel has been elected to the Board of Directors of the South Asian Bar Association of Connecticut (SABAC) for the 2021 term. He has served on its Membership Committee and takes over a Wiggin tradition of Board leadership from Partner Najia Khalid (Director 2015-2020, Banquet Committee Co-Chair 2016, Community Service Co-Chair 2017-2020). 

“I am personally invested in SABAC’s mission of advancing diversity and inclusion in the Connecticut legal community, as well as serving as a resource to South Asian lawyers and law students, and their allies,” Benjamin said. “I share three daughters with my wife of Indian ancestry. I, and our entire family, have been warmly embraced by, and have greatly benefitted from, the greater South Asian community. I have been to India over a half dozen times and am thankful to have had the opportunity to learn to speak Kannada, a South Indian language spoken in the state of Karnataka.  Aside from my personal connection to South Asian culture, I am strongly aligned with SABAC’s mission in the legal community. Over the past year, I have attended several SABAC events and helped coordinate its successful in-person happy hour (remember those?) shortly before the pandemic shut everything down.”

Wiggin and Dana has been involved with SABAC since its founding in 2004.  SABAC’s mission is to support and promote the needs and goals of South Asian-American law students, lawyers and academics as well as other legal professionals in Connecticut. It supports initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion within Connecticut’s legal profession, and has organized and led many efforts that support the needs of the South Asian community in Connecticut and abroad.
