Michael J. Lipp

Partner

Mike is a Partner in Wiggin and Dana’s Real Estate, Construction and Facilities Department. He focuses his practice on commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions and dispositions, financing (representing lenders and borrowers), leasing, loan restructuring, and the negotiation of design, development, and construction contracts, as well as related property and facilities matters.

Mike’s practice is broad in scope and geography, and he advises clients on matters ranging from routine transactions to complex, multi-party deals across the United States. He represents institutional lenders, developers of mixed-use and multifamily projects, commercial landlords and tenants, utility companies, and other entities involved in real estate and construction transactions across a range of asset classes, including office, multifamily, industrial and logistics, manufacturing and retail, healthcare, hospitality, senior living, and other commercial and mixed-use properties.

Before joining Wiggin and Dana, Mike worked for one of the nation’s largest general contractors, where he managed key aspects of large commercial construction projects. His background as a civil engineer and construction superintendent informs his legal work and provides a practical perspective in negotiating and closing the matters he handles.

Representative matters include:

  • Counseled a family office in connection with the acquisition, development, and disposition of multifamily properties throughout the United States.
  • Represented the lead lender, arranger, and administrative and collateral agent in a loan transaction consisting of a term loan and revolving line of credit totaling more than $175 million.
  • Advised a national transportation and logistics company on leasing (landlord and tenant), acquisitions and dispositions, and other matters related to its nationwide real estate portfolio.
  • Represented various landlord and tenant clients in numerous office lease negotiations across the country, ranging in size from a few thousand square feet to hundreds of thousands of square feet. Examples:
    • Represented a tenant in connection with an office lease of more than 78,000 square feet and the related interior improvement construction agreements.
    • Represented a tenant in leasing more than 83,000 square feet for a new West Coast headquarters, including negotiation of design and construction contracts for a multi-phased, fast-track, approximately $20 million build-out of office, laboratory, and research and development space.
    • Represented a tenant in multiple warehouse and manufacturing facility leases from Pennsylvania to Massachusetts.
    • Represented a landlord in various leases consisting of a combination of office and lab space.

Mike received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Quinnipiac University School of Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review and received numerous academic achievement awards. He received his B.S. in Civil Engineering, cum laude, from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
