Supreme Court Update: Term In Review
Greetings, Court Fans!
We hope that you have been enjoying your summer since the end of the October 2004 Term. While the Court has not been active, it certainly has been the object of much attention in light of Justice O’Connor’s retirement — attention that will only intensify now that the President has nominated D.C. Circuit Judge John Roberts to fill her seat. It will certainly be an interesting ten weeks until the start of the October 2005 Term.
But before we get to the next Term, we wanted to send you a parting gift from this past Term. As we indicated in our last Update, at the suggestion of a few of our readers we have compiled all our case summaries from the last Term into a single document, organized into two broad categories — Civil and Criminal — with subsections devoted to particular areas of the law (e.g., Commerce Clause, First Amendment, Intellectual Property). In addition, we have provided an overview of the Term, in which we discuss its highlights, select some of our favorite quotes from the opinions, provide some interesting statistics (just how badly did the Ninth Circuit do?), and offer a brief farewell to Justice O’Connor.
Because the document is rather lengthy, we’ve included a hyperlink below to the PDF on our web site rather than send a massive attachment that might clog up your inbox. The link will open directly to the document — though it may take a while to load. We’ve also included a hyperlink to the abstract page for the Review, from which you can open the document or save it to your hard drive; this page also includes a link for downloading the Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is necessary to read the file.
We hope you find the compilation a useful reference to the Term, and as always we thank you for following the Court with us. Best wishes for the rest of the summer — we’ll see you in October 2005!
