Partner Paul Tuchmann Featured in the Media Regarding Sam Bankman-Fried’s Criminal Fraud Trial
On October 10-13, 2023, Partner Paul Tuchmann was quoted in Law360 and The New York Times regarding Sam Bankman-Fried’s criminal fraud trial in Manhattan.
In the October 13 Law360 article titled, “Bankman-Fried Notches Small Victories In Star Witness Cross”, Paul is quoted stating, “The fact that SBF apparently was right and she was wrong about whether or not to hedge was, in the end, immaterial” to the defendant’s guilt, in connection with the testimony of Bankman-Fried’s ex-girlfriend, Caroline Ellison.
In the October 12 New York Times article, “Sam Bankman-Fried’s Closest Friends Become His Foes in Courtroom Clash”, Paul said, “Former associates often play a key role in organized-crime cases, but “to have those kinds of close relationships — former girlfriend, a former best friend — is not as typical,” after three members of Mr. Bankman-Fried’s inner circle testified against him.
In the October 10 Law360 article, “How A ‘Boxed In’ Bankman-Fried Can Argue His Case”, Paul is quoted saying “SBF’s defense is really boxed in here,” with respect to SBF’s defense suggesting that an FTX investor’s loss “was the product of gullibility and negligence.” Paul continued “I can only imagine the frustration of his lawyers. It’s one thing to go to trial and deal with the government’s case. It’s another thing to be told by the judge that you can’t put on the case you want to put on. You feel like the government has all the advantages and you’ve got one hand, if not both, tied behind your back.”
