Partner Paul Tuchmann Featured in the Media Regarding Sam Bankman-Fried’s Criminal Fraud Trial
On October 10-13, 2023, Partner Paul Tuchmann was quoted in Law360 and The New York Times regarding Sam Bankman-Friedโs criminal fraud trial in Manhattan.
In the October 13 Law360 article titled, โBankman-Fried Notches Small Victories In Star Witness Crossโ, Paul is quoted stating, โThe fact that SBF apparently was right and she was wrong about whether or not to hedge was, in the end, immaterialโ to the defendantโs guilt, in connection with the testimony of Bankman-Friedโs ex-girlfriend, Caroline Ellison.
In the October 12 New York Times article, โSam Bankman-Friedโs Closest Friends Become His Foes in Courtroom Clashโ, Paul said, โFormer associates often play a key role in organized-crime cases, but โto have those kinds of close relationships โ former girlfriend, a former best friend โ is not as typical,โ after three members of Mr. Bankman-Friedโs inner circle testified against him.
In the October 10 Law360 article, โHow A โBoxed Inโ Bankman-Fried Can Argue His Caseโ, Paul is quoted saying โSBFโs defense is really boxed in here,โ with respect to SBFโs defense suggesting that an FTX investorโs loss โwas the product of gullibility and negligence.โ Paul continued โI can only imagine the frustration of his lawyers. Itโs one thing to go to trial and deal with the governmentโs case. Itโs another thing to be told by the judge that you canโt put on the case you want to put on. You feel like the government has all the advantages and youโve got one hand, if not both, tied behind your back.โ
