Wiggin and Dana Joins Leadership Council on Legal Diversity

October 20, 2021

October 20, 2021 โ€“ Wiggin and Dana LLP joined the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD), a strategic step towards building a more diverse and inclusive workplace in which attorneys and staff of all backgrounds can grow personally and professionally, contribute meaningfully, and find purpose in their work.

Founded in 2009, the LCLD has more than 350 members who serve as general counsel of major corporations or managing partners of the nation’s leading law firms. United by a spirit of activism and personal commitment, LCLD members participate widely in the programs they create โ€” leading by example, taking action, and challenging the legal profession to prepare future generations of diverse talent for the highest positions of leadership.  Every member must make a public โ€œLeaders at the Frontโ€ pledge detailing the specific actions โ€“ both personal and organizational โ€“ that the leader will take to advance diverse lawyers within their organizations.

Tim Diemand, Wiggin and Danaโ€™s Managing Partner, will serve as the firmโ€™s representative member to LCLD.

โ€œThe mission of LCLD is consistent with our desire to move toward a more diverse Wiggin and legal industry more broadly,โ€ Tim said. โ€œIt is the responsibility of all law firms to move toward greater inclusion, diversity, and equity in our community. Together, we can work to hold ourselves accountable to implementing the commitments we’ve made publicly, confident that they will advance and enhance the experience of the diverse talent in our organizations and beyond.โ€

Wiggin and Dana will participate in LCLDโ€™s various programs that support IDE DRIVE, Wiggin and Danaโ€™s inclusion, diversity and equity strategic plan.  These include LCLDโ€™s 1L Scholars Program, Pathfinders Program, and Fellows Program.

โ€œWe know that creating optimal conditions for truly inclusive, diverse and equitable workspaces is difficult and the legal profession historically has had particular challenges,โ€ said Jana Simon, Director of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity at Wiggin and Dana.ย  โ€œWiggin has always sought to learn from and be challenged by its professional and civic communities in this regard, and we are excited to engage with LCLDโ€™s leading professional network to accelerate the completion of goals regarding representation and career advancement of diverse attorneys.โ€ย

Among Wiggin and Danaโ€™s inclusion, diversity and equity objectives is to rank in the top third of peer law firms by specific diversity metrics, then move to the top quartile. Previously, the firm was one of the first to sign the Connecticut Bar Associationโ€™s Pledge of Commitment to Best Practices for Gender Equity, one of the initial signatories to The Connecticut Legal Communityโ€™s Diversity & Inclusion Pledge & Plan and is a founding member of the Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity.
