Consumer Protection Developments
On June 13, 2022, Senior Counsel Robert M. Langer will present a panel with Hon. Michelle H. Seagull, the Connecticut Commissioner of Consumer Protection, at the Connecticut Bar Association’s 2022 Connecticut Legal Conference on the topic of Consumer Protection Developments. This session will occur in person at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, CT from 4:45 PM to 5:45 PM.
The presenters will share their knowledge and insights about enforcement, regulatory and other important developments in consumer protection law.
Mr. Langerโs contribution to this panel will focus on his expertise regarding Connecticutโs principal consumer protection law, the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act (โCUTPAโ). Mr. Langer has lectured and written widely on this subject beginning with his tenure in the Connecticut Attorney Generalโs Office, where he served as the Assistant Attorney General in charge of both antitrust and consumer protection until he joined Wiggin and Dana in 1994.
Mr. Langer is the co-author of the definitive treatise on CUTPA, entitled โConnecticut Unfair Trade Practices, Business Torts and Antitrust,โ first published in 1994, with a new edition currently produced each year.ย He has also taught this subject as an adjunct professor for the past forty-three years in UConnโs MBA Program, the UConn Law School, and the Quinnipiac University School of Law.ย During his years with the Connecticut Attorney Generalโs Office, Mr. Langer drafted many of the key amendments to CUTPA. Mr. Langer has also litigated quite a number of the seminal CUTPA cases in both the Connecticut Supreme Court and the Connecticut Appellate Court during his career in government and in private practice.
Mr. Langer is honored to be able to co-present at the Connecticut Legal Conference with Commissioner Seagull.
