This program will discuss the importance of conducting comprehensive and periodic audits for compliance with federal and state privacy requirements, including HIPAA/HITECH, and will provide an enforcement update. The seminar will review auditing strategies and tips for responding to privacy breaches, including Office for Civil Rights (OCR) complaints/investigations.

The session will:

Review the current enforcement environment, including recent cases and fines imposed by OCR
Discuss the importance of auditing for compliance
Offer auditing strategies and provide practical tips to ensure compliance
Discuss how to respond to audit findings, including proper remediation steps
Address requirements and best practices for responding to privacy breaches
Explain how to respond to privacy complaints and OCR investigations, including cautionary notes
