2022 ABA Antitrust Spring Meeting
On April 6, 2022, Senior Counsel Robert M. Langer will be participating as a panel member at the American Bar Association‘s Antitrust Spring Meeting on the subject of consumer protection fundamentals. The Antitrust Spring Meeting of the Antitrust Law Section, held in Washington DC, is the largest gathering of competition and consumer protection lawyers in the world, often with more than 3000 attendees.
Representing a variety of perspectives, this session will provide an introduction to consumer protection law, including privacy, data security, and advertising and marketing law. Mr. Langerโs contribution to this panel will focus on his expertise in the area of state consumer protection law. Mr. Langer has lectured and written widely on this subject beginning with his tenure in the Connecticut Attorney Generalโs Office, where he served as the Assistant Attorney General in charge of both antitrust and consumer protection until he joined Wiggin and Dana in 1994.
Mr. Langer is the co-author of the definitive treatise on Connecticutโs principal consumer protection statute, the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act (โCUTPAโ), entitled โConnecticut Unfair Trade Practices, Business Torts and Antitrust,โ first published in 1994, with a new edition currently produced each year.ย He has also taught this subject as an adjunct professor for the past forty-three years in UConnโs MBA Program, the UConn Law School, and the Quinnipiac University School of Law.ย During his years with the Connecticut Attorney Generalโs Office, Mr. Langer drafted many of the key amendments to CUTPA.ย Mr. Langer has also litigated quite a number of the seminal CUTPA cases in both the Connecticut Supreme Court and the Connecticut Appellate Court during his career in government and in private practice
