CUTPA 50 Years!
On June 5, 2023, Senior Counsel Robert Langer will join Michael C. Wertheimer of the Connecticut Office of the Attorney General and David A. Slossberg of Hurwitz Sagarin Slossberg & Knuff LLC to present “CUTPA 50 Years!” at the Connecticut Bar Association‘s 2023 Connecticut Legal Conference.
This seminar will discuss the remarkable development of the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act (“CUTPA”) over the past half-century, including its profound importance in reshaping the fundamental nature of the relationship between businesses and consumers.
Bob provides a unique perspective regarding CUTPA’s development and significance in that during his tenure as the Connecticut Assistant Attorney General in charge of consumer protection, he was instrumental in the drafting of many of CUTPA key amendments in the 1970’s and 1980’s, as well as litigating many seminal CUTPA cases in the Connecticut Supreme Court, and for the past thirty years, while at Wiggin and Dana, he has co-authored the leading treatise, “Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices, Business Torts and Antitrust,” which is volume 12 of the Thomson Reuters Connecticut Practice Series. Moreover, as an adjunct law professor for the past forty-four years in UConn’s MBA Program (1979-2013), and at UConn Law School (2014-present) and Quinnipiac University School of Law (2021-present), Bob’s courses have included CUTPA and its relationship to the Federal Trade Commission Act.
