Wiggin and Dana Partner Delivers Keynote Address at the Rhode Island Judicial Conference

September 30, 2016

Aaron Bayer, a partner in the firm's Appellate and Complex Legal Issues practice group, was the keynote speaker at the 2016 Fall Conference of the Rhode Island Judiciary on September 30, 2016.

His presentation, entitled "When Judges Rely On Their Own Online Research," discussed the legal and ethical implications of independent judicial fact-finding on the Internet, the relationship of that practice to existing rules regarding judicial notice of facts not developed through the adversarial process, and amicus briefs as an alternative means for obtaining and considering facts from outside the record.
