Kaepernick's Anthem Protest Lacks Constructive Goals

September 3, 2016

The Hartford Courant published an editorial written by Wiggin and Dana Partner Aaron Bayer called "Kaepernick's Anthem Protest Lacks Constructive Goals," on September 3, 2016.

Mr. Bayer's editorial discusses the positive and negative sides of the San Francisco 49ers players' choice to sit during the national anthem to express his view that the country "oppresses black people and people of color."

"At the outset, we should respect Kaepernick's right to stand up, or more accurately sit down, for an issue he is genuinely concerned about. There is no reason to doubt his sincerity or his conviction. He is, after all, fighting for his job with the 49ers, and he certainly knows that the ongoing backlash to his protest will not help his cause. He has something to lose here," said Mr. Bayer in his editorial.
