Partner Erika Amarante Appointed to Vice Chair of DRI’s Medical Liability and Health Law Committee
Partner Erika Amarante was recently appointed Vice Chair of DRI’s Medical Liability and Health Care Law Committee for the 2021-2022 year. As Vice Chair, Erika will assist in planning and organizing activities for the Committee, including educational seminars, publications, membership, networking and other professional development opportunities. Erika will transition to her new role as Committee Vice Chair at the conclusion of the 2021 DRI Annual Meeting in mid-October.
Erika has held many positions within DRI and the Medical Liability Committee, including serving as Program Chair for the three-day Medical Liability and Health Care Law seminar in Nashville in 2019. More recently, Erika was appointed to serve as the Committee’s Inaugural Chair of its Diversity & Inclusion Subcommittee. In February 2021, Erika co-presented a webinar on “The Nuts and Bolts of a Medical Malpractice Claim.”
DRI is the leading organization of civil defense attorneys and in-house counsel. It has 29 substantive committees whose focus is to develop ongoing and critical dialogue about areas of practice. The Medical Liability and Health Care Law committee is one of DRI’s most active and engaged committees, producing two annual three-day seminars, the Medical Liability and Health Care Law Seminar and the Nursing Home/ALF Seminar, at varying locations nationwide.
Erika also serves as Co-Chair of Wiggin and Dana’s Medical Malpractice Defense Practice Group. She represents hospitals, physicians, and other health care providers in cases alleging professional negligence, lack of informed consent, or negligent credentialing. She has extensive experience in defending claims of wrongful death, birth trauma, delayed diagnosis of cancer, and brain injuries, as well as the catastrophic injuries that often arise in such claims.
