Partner John Doroghazi Quoted in Connecticut Law Tribune on the False Arrest of Laurence Washington

April 1, 2022

On March 31, 2022, Partner John Doroghazi was quoted in the Connecticut Law Tribune article, โ€œ2nd Circuit: East Hartford Police Officers Not Protected by Immunity in False Arrest, Malicious Prosecution Suit.โ€ The article highlights Wiggin and Danaโ€™s pro bono representation of plaintiff Laurence Washington, who claims police officers omitted exculpatory evidence from his arrest warrant affidavit, after being acquitted of robbery and conspiracy charges and spending nearly a year in prison.

The US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit affirmed a district court’s denial of summary judgment to the two East Hartford police officers that are being sued for the false arrest and malicious prosecution. John is quoted stating, “Mr. Washington has not received any compensation to date and there has been no settlement in this matter. At trial, Mr. Washington will certainly be pursuing damages to compensate him for his almost yearlong wrongful imprisonment.”
