Partner Tadhg Dooley Quoted in Law360 Article on Anti-SLAPP Laws
Partner Tadhg Dooley was quoted in a June 7, 2023, Law360 article titled, “Checkmate In Chess Battle Could Hinge On Anti-SLAPP Laws.”
The article describes the defamation lawsuit filed by top chess player Hans Niemann against grandmaster Magnus Carlsen and others for accusing Niemann of cheating. Niemann, a Connecticut resident, filed a federal complaint in the Eastern District of Missouri, which the defendants have sought to dismiss under Connecticut’s anti-SLAPP law. The Law360 article explores the differences between the states’ anti-SLAPP laws and the choice-of-law principles the District Court will apply. Dooley, described as “one of the first attorneys to test Connecticut’s relatively new anti-SLAPP statute,” is quoted extensively on the purpose and value of strong anti-SLAPP laws.
