Wiggin and Dana Announces Attorney Promotions

– Wiggin and Dana is pleased to announce four partners and one Counsel effective January 1, 2011.

Robert S. Hoff, a member of the firm's White Collar Defense, Investigations and Corporate Compliance Practice Group and the Litigation Department. He is also a member of the firm's eDiscovery and Electronic Data Practice Group. In white collar matters, Robert has represented individuals and corporations in civil and criminal matters before the Securities and Exchange Commission and the United States Department of Justice, and has conducted numerous internal investigations. He has also worked on numerous commercial litigation matters.

Steven B. Malech, a member of the firm's Litigation Department, as well as the firm's Antitrust and Consumer Protection and Probate Litigation practice groups. Steve's experience includes the representation of clients in connection with a broad variety of antitrust and consumer protection matters in court and in single and multi-administrative matters and investigations before federal, state and local government agencies, including the United States Federal Trade Commission, the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice and the offices of state attorneys general. Steve's experience in probate litigation includes the representation of beneficiaries, fiduciaries and creditors with respect to will contests, disputed accounting proceedings and alleged breaches of fiduciary duty. He also counsels businesses and individuals with respect to a variety of business and litigation issues, and has represented clients in complex business, employment and intellectual property matters.

Rebecca A. Matthews, a member in both the Corporate and Health Care Departments. She represents business entities in the areas of capital formation, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, technology transfers and corporate governance. Rebecca's experience includes significant work on business transactions for health care providers, including provider joint ventures; mergers and affiliations of hospitals, health systems and other providers; provider and physician practice acquisitions; and corporate reorganizations. She also counsels biotechnology companies in connection with licensing arrangements, R&D agreements, strategic alliances and similar matters.

Kevin M. Smith, a member of the Litigation Department. Kevin represents the firm's clients in a variety of disputes, with a principal focus on medical malpractice defense, product liability, and general business litigation, including the defense of class action lawsuits. He has handled numerous matters in state and federal trial and appellate courts, including issues concerning electronic discovery, class actions, multi-district litigation (MDL), civil rights, and the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act (CUTPA).

Wiggin and Dana is pleased to announce one new Counsel.

Rachel B. Arnedt, a member of the Labor, Employment and Benefits Department. Rachel's practice includes qualified and non-qualified deferred compensation, executive compensation, health, welfare and flexible benefits plans. Her clients include both taxable and tax-exempt employers. Rachel rejoined Wiggin and Dana after nearly five years as in-house ERISA counsel for a Fortune 50 company, where she practiced extensively in the areas of employee benefits in mergers and acquisitions and qualified plans.
