October 13, 2014
Wiggin and Dana franchise attorneys Bethany Appleby and John Doroghazi will be presenting at the American Bar Association's 37th Annual Forum on Franchising held on October 15-17, 2014 in Seattle, Washington. In addition, Wiggin and Dana franchise attorney James Goniea, a member of the Forum's Governing Committee, is serving as the Co-Chair of this three day legal conference.

Bethany will be co-presenting a program on the Fundamentals of Franchising, which will provide a comprehensive overview of the key areas of law for those who want a thorough introduction to this field, as well as those who want a refresher on one or more areas of franchise law practice. During this program, Bethany will be discussing franchise relationship laws. Bethany also serves as the editor-in-chief of the American Bar Association's Franchise Law Journal.

John's presentation is titled Consumer Class Actions Against Franchise Systems, and it will provide an overview of the various issues that franchisors and franchisees are likely to encounter when faced with a consumer class action lawsuit. During this program, John and his co-presenter will address how and when the interests of the franchisor and franchisee defendants may converge or diverge, the motives and tactics of the consumer class action plaintiff's bar, evaluating defenses, and settlement strategies in a post-Class Action Fairness Act world.
