Wiggin and Dana Partner Invited to Join Product Liability Advisory Council
New Haven – Wiggin and Dana is pleased to announce that Partner Kevin Smith has been invited to join the Product Liability Advisory Council.
The Product Liability Advisory Council ("PLAC") is a non-profit association formed in 1983 to analyze, understand and shape common law of product liability and complex litigation. Its membership is comprised of more than 100 product manufacturers and 350 product liability defense counsels operating around the world. Kevin is one of only three Connecticut-based product liability defense attorneys to be accepted into PLAC. Membership within PLAC is "by-invitation-only" and is extended to defense trial and appellate attorneys with strong experience in complex litigation matters.
Co-chair of the firm's Product Liability Practice Group, Kevin has counseled and defended product designers, manufacturers, sellers, owners, operators, and insurers in the aviation, pharmaceutical, consumer, and other industries. In addition, Kevin has represented business clients in commercial and intellectual property disputes, class actions, and other matters involving unfair and deceptive trade practices (CUTPA), antitrust, and other business tort claims. He has defended hospitals and physicians in numerous medical malpractice and health care-related actions involving medical products and devices, complex medical issues, and large damage claims.
Prior to joining the firm, Kevin served as law clerk to the Honorable Thomas F. Hogan of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and to the Honorable Barrington D. Parker of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Kevin graduated with honors from Yale University and Georgetown Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of The Georgetown Law Journal, was elected a member of The Order of the Coif, and graduated magna cum laude.
