November 9, 2011

New Haven - Wiggin and Dana is a proud sponsor of Startup Weekend New Haven being held November 11-13, 2011 at The Grove in New Haven, Connecticut.

Wiggin and Dana Corporate Partners Anthony Gangemi, Paul Hughes and Frank Marco will serve as mentors for this weekend long event. Wiggin and Dana will also provide a total of $4,000 of pro bono legal services to the first, second and third place winners.

"We are enthusiastic about Wiggin and Dana's sponsorship of this inaugural Startup Weekend in New Haven," comments Frank Marco, chair of the firm's Emerging Companies and Private Equity Practice Group. "As mentors we are looking forward to helping entrepreneurs make their concepts become reality."

Startup Weekend, an intense 54 hour event, focuses on building a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend. The event will be held at the Grove, a New Haven coworking space.

"Startup Weekend packs into three days what normally takes entrepreneurs three months to do," said organizer Derek Koch, founder of New Haven software firm Independent Software. "Entrepreneurs with ideas find cofounders, develop their plans, build prototypes, and present their ideas to a judging panel - all in a single weekend."

As part of the growing "innovation ecosystem" that has been recognized as a driver of economic development and jobs in Connecticut, Startup Weekend gives innovators a venue to roll up their sleeves and create new companies, new jobs, and new wealth.
