Toby is Partner in Wiggin and Dana’s Corporate Department and acts as Vice-Chair of the Life Sciences Practice Group and Co-Chair of the Clinical Research Practice Group.

Toby serves as trusted counsel to life sciences clients in many of their most critical endeavors, including complex licensing arrangements, research, development and collaboration arrangements, clinical trials, and manufacturing, supply, commercialization and distribution agreements. With a lifelong passion for science, Toby’s enthusiasm for learning each client’s business and technology makes him a dedicated advocate in advising and representing the interests of his clients and negotiating on their behalf. Toby is also a member of wiggin(x), through which he represents life science startups in their early-stage endeavors including university licenses, strategic service arrangements, and early-stage partnering, with a thoughtful approach to enable short- and long-term company success. Toby’s work has received recognition from organizations such as LMG Life Sciences, ALM Global and Law.com.

Before becoming Partner at the Firm, Toby served as Research and Development Counsel at Alexion Pharmaceuticals. There, he served as legal counsel for the business’ global Research and Development organization, supporting some of Alexion’s most critical programs including the Soliris® and Ultomiris® franchises. He also served as counsel to the company’s Bioinformatics & Data Sciences organization, where he was responsible for negotiating and drafting agreements in innovative, ground-breaking spaces, with the special distinction of one such collaborative agreement enabling a new Guinness World Record for the fastest genetic diagnosis through DNA sequencing. Toby’s time as in-house counsel makes him uniquely qualified to offer a practical, realistic perspective and insight into the needs of a rapidly-growing and evolving business. Prior to his role at Alexion, Toby was an Associate in the Life Sciences Practice Group at Wiggin and Dana.

Toby received his J.D. from Boston College Law School, where he served as an Articles Editor for the Boston College Environmental Affairs Law Review. He received his B.S. from the University of Notre Dame with a dual-degree in Science Preprofessional Studies and Philosophy. Toby has held a number of service and leadership roles at the firm and currently serves as Co-Chair of “DRIVE Pride,” Wiggin and Dana’s LGBTQ+ employee resource group.
