Toby is Partner in Wiggin and Danaโs Corporate Department and acts as Vice-Chair of the Life Sciences Practice Group and Co-Chair of the Clinical Research Practice Group.
Toby serves as trusted counsel to life sciences clients in many of their most critical endeavors, including complex licensing arrangements, research, development and collaboration arrangements, clinical trials, and manufacturing, supply, commercialization and distribution agreements. With a lifelong passion for science, Tobyโs enthusiasm for learning each clientโs business and technology makes him a dedicated advocate in advising and representing the interests of his clients and negotiating on their behalf. Toby is also a member of wiggin(x), through which he represents life science startups in their early-stage endeavors including university licenses, strategic service arrangements, and early-stage partnering, with a thoughtful approach to enable short- and long-term company success. Tobyโs work has received recognition from organizations such as LMG Life Sciences, ALM Global and Law.com.
Before becoming Partner at the Firm, Toby served as Research and Development Counsel at Alexion Pharmaceuticals. There, he served as legal counsel for the businessโ global Research and Development organization, supporting some of Alexionโs most critical programs including the Solirisยฎ and Ultomirisยฎ franchises. He also served as counsel to the companyโs Bioinformatics & Data Sciences organization, where he was responsible for negotiating and drafting agreements in innovative, ground-breaking spaces, with the special distinction of one such collaborative agreement enabling a new Guinnessโข World Record for the fastest genetic diagnosis through DNA sequencing. Tobyโs time as in-house counsel makes him uniquely qualified to offer a practical, realistic perspective and insight into the needs of a rapidly-growing and evolving business. Prior to his role at Alexion, Toby was an Associate in the Life Sciences Practice Group at Wiggin and Dana.
Toby received his J.D. from Boston College Law School, where he served as an Articles Editor for theย Boston College Environmental Affairs Law Review. He received his B.S. from the University of Notre Dame with a dual-degree in Science Preprofessional Studies and Philosophy. Toby has held a number of service and leadership roles at the firm and currently serves as Co-Chair of โDRIVE Pride,โ Wiggin and Danaโs LGBTQ+ employee resource group.
