On August 2, 2023, Senior Counsel Robert M. Langer will present “History of NAAG and AGs Working Together in Antitrust and Consumer Protection Enforcement” at the National Association of Attorneys General Eastern Region Meeting.

Bob has been asked to address this topic because he was intimately involved in the early development of both antitrust and consumer protection multistate enforcement during his two decades in the Office of the Connecticut Attorney General beginning in the 1970’s, where he headed the Antitrust & Consumer Protection Department. This included the 1977 “Chevymoble” litigation, the first multistate consumer protection initiative undertaken by the states that returned millions to consumers throughout the U.S. General Motors had failed to disclose the substitution of Chevy engines in 1977 Oldsmobiles, as well as in vehicles in other GM divisions.  Bob later chaired both the Eastern States Antitrust Committee (1988-90) and the National Association of Attorneys General Multistate Antitrust Task Force (1990-92).  During his tenure as NAAG Task Force Chair, Bob coordinated the states’ multistate enforcement efforts with both the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission.

Special thanks to our Summer Associate, Mia Gratacos-Atterberry, who has offered invaluable assistance to Bob by helping him prepare a set of PowerPoint slides that will be an important part of his presentation.
