Connecticut Legal Services Honors Wiggin and Dana Attorneys

October 27, 2014

New Haven – Wiggin and Dana is pleased to announce that Timothy Diemand, Tadhg Dooley, Rebecca Matthews and Elisabeth Pimentel will be honored at Connecticut Legal Services' 2014 Annual Meeting on October 27th. Each year, Connecticut Legal Services honors attorneys and law firms who provide significant pro bono services to the community.

"Wiggin and Dana's attorneys are amazingly public-minded, as our awards to them this year demonstrate," said Steven D. Eppler-Epstein, Executive Director, Connecticut Legal Services, Inc. "The firm supports our work towards justice in every way they can."

Tim and Tadhg will be honored for their pro bono representation of Ms. Finley, a single mother from Atlanta. Ms. Finley had a federal lawsuit brought against her by a Bridgeport Police Sergeant who alleged that the mother defamed him in connection with newspaper articles reporting that, with the assistance of the Bridgeport Police Department, he withheld her child from her after she'd been granted sole custody. The federal court granted Tim and Tadhg's motion to dismiss the defamation complaint in its entirety.

"In addition to Wiggin and Dana's general support for the legal needs of low-income families, Attorneys Dooley and Diemand represented one of those families directly. Their success in that case is just one example of the firm's ongoing commitment to ensure equal access to justice." Anne Louise Blanchard, Litigation Director, Connecticut Legal Services, Inc.

Rebecca and Elisabeth will be honored for assisting Connecticut Legal Services with the creation of a non-profit health equity agency, whose mission is to eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities in Connecticut. Rebecca and Elisabeth also prepared a fiscal sponsorship agreement as well as documentation for other arrangements for the corporation.

"Attorneys Pimentel and Matthews provided incredible guidance and assistance in helping us create a new health equity advocacy agency," commented Astrid Lebron, Director of Development, Connecticut Legal Services, Inc. "Their help further demonstrates Wiggin and Dana's commitment to promoting justice and equality."

Wiggin and Dana has a longstanding commitment to equal justice and the protection of civil liberties and offers pro bono counsel to a number of organizations, such as New Haven Legal Assistance, All Our Kin, Lawyers for Children America, the Ronald McDonald House and the NAACP. Wiggin and Dana has been especially active in supporting Connecticut Legal Services in its mission to help low-income families and individuals obtain justice. Each year, attorneys at the firm donate countless dollars and hours to Connecticut Legal Services. In addition, Wiggin and Dana Partner Aaron Bayer is on the Advisory Council for Connecticut Legal Services.
