James is a Partner in the Litigation Department and Co-Chair of the Accountantsโ€™ Liability Practice Group. James’ practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, with particular emphasis on intellectual property, accountants’ liability, and securities. James also has extensive experience in the area of white collar defense, internal investigations, SEC, NYSE and other regulatory investigations. Significant matters that James has worked on include:

  • Representation of large aeronautics industry client against a patent assertion which included multinational litigations.ย  Successfully prevailed in the U.S. district court and on appeal, proving the patent invalid;
  • Representation of medical device company in ITC patent assertion case and related U.S. litigation;
  • Representation of aeronautics industry client in trademark infringement and prosecution proceedings;
  • Representation of Fortune 500 insurance company in multi state Attorney General investigations related to contingent commissions and the marketing of group annuities;
  • Representation of Fortune 500 insurance company in state Attorney General investigation related to insurance for hurricane damage;
  • Representation of Big Four accounting firms before the Securities and Exchange Commission and in accountant liability cases throughout the country;
  • Representation of Lebon Insurance Company in a multimillion dollar insurance coverage dispute arising out of the spill of toxic materials at an explosive manufacturing plant in Utah;
  • Representation of insurance brokers in a variety of insurance broker liability cases in state and federal courts;
  • Representation of Fine Host Corporation (Greenwich, CT) in a $175 million securities fraud class action arising out of the discovery of alleged accounting irregularities and the subsequent restatement of earnings;
  • Representation of Bandag, Inc. (a leader in commercial truck tire retreading technology located in Iowa) in a multimillion dollar anti-trust litigation against Michelin, Inc.

James received his B.A. cum laude from Pomona College, and his J.D. from New York University, where he was editor of Moot Court Board.

He is admitted to practice in Connecticut and New York and is a member of the American Bar Association and Connecticut Bar Association.
